CFS-1 on WinXP

I have installed CFS-1 on WinXP. The free flight mode works fine, but
the missions or campaigns come up with the error "Seek error. C:
\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Combat Flight Simulator\scenery
\Carriers.bgl". Clicking OK then brings up "Application error: The
instruction at 0x73dd11c7 referenced memory at 0x00000004" etc etc.
I have DirectX9.0c installed. The user is an administrator on XP. The
file in question exists in that place and looks fine. I have installed
from 2 different CD drives, and used the main CFS CD and a backup I
made just after I bought it, all with no luck. The processor is an AMD
Athlon XP-2500 if that makes any difference.
However, I installed it on my Win2000 laptop and it all works fine.
That is a Toshiba Tecra 8000.
Has anyone got any idea what may be happening? What does a "seek
error" mean on a file that seems to exist fine?
Thanks in advance,
paul
