Re: Can't Install Game

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

I did some research online and found someone who had the same problem. I was
able to install the game by starting Windows in Safe Mode. The Autorun didn't
work, but I was able to view the files on disk and run the setup.exe. Had no
problems with the install. I think that one or more background programs were
affecting it. I didn't have to update the drivers on my DVD Drive. I haven't
had a chance to play it yet to see if its all good, but at least its
installed.

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Any chance you might have a virtual drive? I am asking because you
mention the drive letter I.

Thomas,

Thanks for the help. I tried it, but I'm still getting the same error
message as before.

Looks like your autoexec.nt file is corrupt. Copy it from
c:\windows\repair to c:\windows\system32, click ok when prompted to
overwrite.

I am running Windows XP Home Edition. I've been trying to install a new game
(Command and Conquer - The First Decade) on my computer using a PCDVD disk.
When I place the disk in a DVD drive (I have 2) and Autorun kicks in, I get
an error message: I:/Not a valid Win32 Application. I've tried it in both DVD
drives..same result. I returned the disk to the store and got a new one,
still didn't work. I've tried it on another computer (Not mine) and it comes
up. So I know its not the disk itself. Per the user manual I've closed all
open porgrams and all unnecessary background tasks (By using Task Manager),
including virus scanners. I've read some of the other posts on here with the
same error message, but none of those suggestions have worked out for me.
Please help.
