Re: I cannot get my Saitek AV8R Joystick to install

It took a bit of time to get back to this --

You mentioned
1.Saitek AV8R Classic Stick(USB) 5.6.0.54 Saitek c:windows\inf\oem16inf
(This looks like a win 9x driver inf file to me)
2.Saitek AV8R Classic Stick(USB) 5.6.0.54 Saitek
d:winxp\drivers\0461\sai0461.inf This may be correct for XP, don't know,
would need to look at the .inf file contents.
(Is this the downloaded package from saitek?
3.Saitek AV8R Classic Stick(USB) 5.6.0.54 Saitek Windows Update I have no
idea here, other than the obvious from the label.
4.USB Human Interface Device 5.1.2600.2180 (Standard System Devices)
c:windows\inf\input.inf (This is likely the resulting choice for a generic
USB input device.

You may have conflecting .inf files installed-- This is usually a manual
seek and find exercise, starting with sai0461.inf
Normally, you can use notepad to look at the contents. The conflict may be
between win9x and winxp versions, or even something included in the windows
package.
There may be a mistake in the .inf file preventing a match between the
windows detected hardware and the information in the inf file.
You may get into a situation that requires that you install the driver
package, and then install the hardware. If the driver package is installed
correctly (And written properly) this should help with the detected hardware
HID problem. The difficulty may be that remnants of an obsolete driver and
inf file are in conflict.

Hi,

I had to replace my old Sidewinder Precision 2 with the above due to
mechanical failure. I also have the Saitek Rudder pedals previously
installed and working.
WinXP recognises the device on plug in but gets to a stage where it
says
*cannot install this hardware HID Class The data Is Invalid.
Looking at Device Manager the Saitek AV8R Joystick Is Present with an
exclamation mark. looking at properties reveals: The drivers for this
device
are not installed
Click Reinstall Drivers.
Hardware update wizard.
Please select the best match for your hardware from the list below

1.Saitek AV8R Classic Stick(USB) 5.6.0.54 Saitek
c:windows\inf\oem16inf
2.Saitek AV8R Classic Stick(USB) 5.6.0.54 Saitek
d:winxp\drivers\0461\sai0461.inf
3.Saitek AV8R Classic Stick(USB) 5.6.0.54 Saitek Windows Update
4.USB Human Interface Device 5.1.2600.2180 (Standard System Devices)
c:windows\inf\input.inf

Items 2,3&4 are digitally signed and have the green tick . the machine
selects No2 which is greened out. Trying each in turn ends as * above.
I have checked the registry and there is a key and subfolder at
address at
a
USB\VID_ Key just above the one for the rudder pedals. I clicked on
this
to
give permissions applied as there are 2 group and user names
in the top box
Full control &
Read are both ticked and greened out. I then unplugged and plugged in
AV8R
device. No difference.
There are still registry entries existing for the Sidewinder but I am
unable
to reinstall this now! The same data message is given.

I apologise if this is a bit long winded but I have spent hours
looking
for
a resolution.
My copy of XP has all the WGA stuff and is validated.

Hi Chuck

Yes you will see this opened prog is in with above including one from a
Windows update session.
Now Saitek tec supp says "This is a well known Windows XP problem that
applies to all sorts of devices that are being installed and sorry they
are
unable to help.
