Hi quantumtime,

Sounds like you have a software firewall such as Nortons, Zone Alarm, etc.,
which is preventing the game from connecting to the network at first.

If you have such a firewall, make sure to add scrabble to it's allowed applications
list. To test the theory before making changes, exit from or disable your firewall.
