slow graphics

i just got a fancy new computer - running windows xp with a radeon x600 se
graphics card (i think) and loaded "syberia" onto the system. it sucks
because the characters move painfully slow - impossible to play. i admit i'm
a computer moron - can anybody tell me how to make this run faster?
