old ansi.sys games on xp

Is there any simple way of running old programs that use ansi.sys for
character graphics on XP? (Or do I have to
did out my 286 from my closet?)

These are old c programs that I need to compile and run and make some
changes so some sort of debugging enviroment would be nice.
