Mouse freezes

I have a wireless optical mouse, an optical mouse with a cord, and a regular mouse. I have hooked all of them to my P4 at various times and only experience the mouse freezes with the optical mice. My regular mouse appears to work fine. It seems to be related to the use of the USB ports. I have the latest drivers and have reloaded several times with no change in symptoms. My power saver tab is turned off. The mice normally lock up most often when I am playing games offline (and I die) but the problem also occurs while I am working in Word or surfing. I have an microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse connected to my laptop at work (it also uses XP), but I do not experience the problem there. Perhaps I will bring the setup home next weekend and do some fooling around with it. I was encouraged by the release of the microsoft intellimouse update last week but it has not helped. I keep the battery cover off of my mouse all the time now so I can reset it. This is an extremely frustrating problem, and I would
 appreciate any leads resulting in its resolution.
