Let me ask you a few simple questions that may help you to gather the missing pieces:.
- did you copy the HelloWorld.exe file from the Samples\Tutorial directory of the Disk1 to the HelloWorld_Component directory? - YES
- did you create the custom component - the .sld - with the HelloWorld.exe listed in the file section and repository created,
added and assigned to the component? - YES
- did you add the new component to the demo image created by the tutorial? DONT UNDDERSTAND? (WHAT STEP?)
- when you check the "Documents and Settings\Default User\Desktop\SAMPLES\TUTORIAL" directory I hope you check it under your
*build image folder*, right? (i.e. "C:\Tutorial\HelloBuild\Documents and Settings\Default User\Desktop\SAMPLES\TUTORIAL") - YES

Thank you for the clarification.
But I still do not understand step 6 of tutorial "Creating a Custom
Component" :
"Step 6: Explore the Run-Time Image
After building your run-time image, you view the files and folders that were
created for your run-time image during the build process. You can explore the
run-time image, reviewing the basic directory structure and where the
HelloWorld.exe application is located.
Use Windows Explorer to browse to the Tutorial\HelloBuild folder.
You can see that the following files and folders have been created in the
folder:
Documents and Settings folder
Program Files folder
WINDOWS folder
Boot.ini
NTDETECT.COM
Ntldr
WERUNTIME.INI
HelloWorld.exe is located in the Documents and Settings\Default
User\Desktop\SAMPLES\TUTORIAL directory.
HelloWorld.sld and HelloWorld.slx have been stored in the Tutorial folder
located in your root folder. "
I do not find HelloWorld.exe located in Documents and Settings\Default
User\Desktop\SAMPLES\TUTORIAL directory. ?????
What is the different between the 2 tutorial :
1. Building and Deploying a Run-Time Image
2. Creating a Custom Component
The executable that is added to the image?
Thank you,
KK

Keren,
New executable? I don't think so. The HelloWorld.exe mentioned in the step 6 is the one you copied at the step1 from CD.
XPe Tools is not something similar to Visual Studio (although my hope is that XPe team will eventually move to use VS2005/VS200x
IDE). You don't build executables there, you build an OS.

Keren, you have probably missed step # 1, item #2: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms940137.aspx
"From the Windows XP Embedded CD-ROM, Disk 1, copy the HelloWorld.exe file from the Samples\Tutorial directory to the
HelloWorld_Component directory. "

I have a problem in the Tutorial :Creating a custom Component,
step 6:Explore the Run-Time Image.
"After building your run-time image, you view the files and folders that

explore the run-time image, reviewing the basic directory structure and where

User\Desktop\SAMPLES\TUTORIAL directory.
HelloWorld.sld and HelloWorld.slx have been stored in the Tutorial folder
located in your root folder".
I do NOT find HelloWorld.exe located in C:\Tutorial\HelloBuild\Documents and
Settings\Default User\Desktop\SAMPLES\TUTORIAL directory.
Actually I do NOT find Desktop\SAMPLES\TUTORIAL directory in
C:\Tutorial\HelloBuild\Documents and Settings\Default User, and
I do NOT find HelloWorld.exe that was created from the build.(only in
C:\HelloWorld_Component, but this is the original executable, which I brought
from the XP embedded disk 1).
Thank you
Keren
