Re: Error: Cannot find a valid Windows XP Embedded database installed

Sorry for being late!

Well, in fact it has a network connection, and it's working without any
problem, but the error message is still here. But I have found a
solution: if I install everything in the same computer (tools and
database), it doesn't appear the error message; after I've everything
working well, I uninstall the tools and that's it. Not a very elegant
solution, but... :)

However, after installing the tools in another computer, I've got
another problem: I cannot connect to the server database. It tells me
that it doesn't found any database. I check everything I guess it can
be a problem, but without success: firewall, network connection, etc.
Everything was fine, but the error is still here. I've been reading
about this problem, but I haven't found a solution yet. Any advice
would be great!

Until I found how to solve this problem, I'm working with remote
desktop :/

Thanks for your help!

This is true - if your computer does not have a network connection, the
database upgrade will fail due to networking issues. It's because the
TCP/IP stack basically dies when all network devices on the system are in a
Media Disconnected state. The workaround for this is to either connect to a
network (even just to a router that provides physical connectivity, though
your system doesn't necessarily need to get an IP address), or to follow my
workaround in this blog article:
http://blogs.msdn.com/embedded/archive/2006/06/17/635616.aspx - actually my
blog post from when I got to Taiwan for MEDC back in June - I described how
to "unshare" your repositories folder so the tools and upgrades would work
in a non-networked environment.

Hope this helps.

And you are connected to a network when performing the upgrade to SP2?

Thanks for your answer Sean!

I know it sounds strange, but I've already tried both options: starting
the SQL service and rebooting the computer. It's making me crazy,
because I can see the "icon tray" of the MSSQL Server telling me that
it's running normally.

Any other advice?

If you performed an upgrade to MSDE, you might have to reboot the system
or
just start the SQL service in order to install SP2.

Hi!

I'm trying to install Windows XP Embedded but I'm getting an error.
I've installed XPE SP1 without no problem. I'm just installing the
database, I'll install the tools in another computer. Well, the
problem
appears when I try to upgrade the database to SP2. This is the message
I get:

---
Cannot find a valid Windows XP Embedded database installed.
Setup cannot continue.
WEUpdate Exiting with return code: 64
---

What's going on here? I've checked the permission of the repositorie
folder, but without any succeed. I also have looked at Windows
webpage,
but I haven't found anything else yet (I'm still looking for a
solution, because it's very strange that this error is not
documented).

Any help would be great! Thanks very much!
