Re: Compact Flash Devices

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Thanks for the help. We had been formatting the CF as NTFS and had
problems. After formatting the CF as FAT32, we are able to create 2
partitions, and boot from the primary partition. We are using Disk
Management in XP-Pro to partition, format, and activate. Not sure why
our CF device does not like NTFS.

Ken,
I'll tell you how I do it and it works fine on the SS CF, unless I don't
understand your particular problem.
I install a floppy DOS Boot Disk on my Target, I install my virgin Silicon
Systems CF in the Slot. I boot from DOS and use FDISK to set up my
partitions and mark the first one as active. Reboot from Floppy, and format
both partitions.
I then run Bootprep on it.

I copy my image to it then let it run thru FBA. When my image is finalized,
I make a sector copy of the entire Flash, partitions and all. Then I start
duplicating.

I have had no problem at all creating partitions or formatting Silicon
Systems Industrial Flash drives.

Dear Community,

We have been working with a Silicon Systems CF fixed device (not
removable) on a VersaLogic SBC (Geode). We have not been completely
successful creating a boot partition -- in particular, with two
partitions. We're working with Silicon Systems with a custom
application they've written that's suppose to create a master boot
record, however it's not going well.

We would much appreciate advice or recommendations on what industrial
CF devices to look for and what support you've used for configurating
the device. If you have had success creating more than one partition,
please let us know how you accomplished this! Thanks much,

Ken
