Re: freeze problem on normal boot

It turns out that if I remove the graphics card sitting in the PCI-Express
slot and use the onboard VGA, the system will boot repeatedly after the FBA.

So, do I need to build a special component for this display card with driver
or is there an existing XPe component that I should add in? Shouldn't the
graphics card have beee picked up by TAP - I think it has a Niveda chip -
isn't that part of XP2. Seems like I never am sure whether to build a special
component or not in dealing with XPe.

Re the USB mouse, I added in the MS USB Intellimouse coponent (maybe it
should have been the optical Intellimouse) and I still can't get the mouse to
move. Shouldn't I be getting at least basic mouse functions with that mouse
component. Do I need another component as well for the mouse?

Thanks,

Art

Art,

The board look good. If you are going through FBA, the CF should be okay
too. I am at a loss to why it is locking up. Maybe someone else has seen the
problem.

The system is a Commell LV-677 mini-ITX. Here's a link to the specs:

http://www.logicsupply.com/product_info.php?products_id=552

The CF is on the secondary master. (it has to be on the secondary). Not
sure
that makesa difference. The primary is SATA only.

As of now I have no other hard drives in the system. I do have a graphics
card with a Nvidea chip sitting in a slot. I have a USB floppy attached as
well.

Is there a particular CF that you like to work with?

The CF at this point should be the problem. Not sure without being there.
What kind of system is the target?

You need to have the USB mouse component in the configuration.

I was able to get a successful first boot by deleting the EWF components
from
the target i previously booted. However even with the EWF deleted, the
system
froze on the Windows logo progress bar at the same point, about
halfway.
Are
there any other possible cause for the freeze other than a removable
CF?

Also I still don't understand why the USB mouse doesn't work. When
windows
comes up the mouse stays in the middle of the screen and I can't move
it.
All
it can do is show an hourglass when the system is busy with something.
I
tried a different USB mouse but had the same problem.

If I remember correctly, this BSOD has to deal with a missmatch in

Do you have both FAT and NTFS in the configuration? You may have
formated
the drive with FAT, but only have NTFS in the configuration.

This Transcend CF was advertised as fixed but maybe there's an issue
with
it.
So as a temp workaround, I went back and created a new basic .sld
with
no
RAM
EWF, starting from scratch by importing the .pmq file, resolving
four
dependencies:

ACPI - NT loader
Language - English
Session Mgr- minilogin
UI - FAT and NTFS

The build had no errors. But when I tried to boot the CF on the
target,
I
got
a "process1_initialization failed" BSOD.

Any ideas,

Thanks,

Sounds like the CF card is ID'd as removable. If it is removable,
XPe
will
not be able to create a second partition on a removable drive.

One other comment. I repeated the entire sequence and checked
FBALOG.TXT.
The
only line that seems to be abnormal is

"Can't create EWF partition on disk0/partition0"

The is more than enough partitioned and unpartitioned space on
the
CF
to
start EWF.

Also I boot edto the command shell. When I execute Notepad, the
mouse
doesn't work; shouldn't it be working even though I'm starting in
the
command
shell?

Thanks,

Art

Hello,

I created a target image with RAM EWF and transferred it to CF
on
the
target
system. The FBA process seemed to work without any problem -
after
the
automatic reboots I was able to get a command line prompt, so
everything
seemed OK.

Then I shut the system down and did another boot but this time
the
whole
system froze about half way through the progress bar on the
Windows
XP
logo
screen.i.e. the system was completely unresponsive.

Any ideas on why the normal boot failed in this manner.

Thanks,
