You might try going into the Control Panel, clicking Admin Tools, then
Services, scroll down to the W section... find Windows Audio and start that
service. It should be set to Automatic.

I seem to have lost my sound on my HP Omnibook 6000 running XP service pack
2. Using plug and play does not work. Checking on hardware tells me the
driver (WMI) is OK, but needs to be started. How do I start it? I have
already tried uninstall and reinstall.
