I need a real Tech for this blunder!
I have an old used laptop that I bought to
play around with so that I dont screw up the one
I use for business. I have no formal computer
education but have learned by trial and error since
dos 6. 386 machines.
I have built and upgraded all my desk tops since then
but I am new to notebooks and XP. Anyway,............
The old notebook had some display settings problems
so I was experimenting, in the diplay adapter advanced
settings I changed the driver start type from system to
automatic.(seemed harmless!!) now the driver does not load
at boot!
the splash screen appears then black screen where log in
should be.
I have tried safe mode boot..does not work.
The C: drive is partitioned so I loaded xp home onto D:
I now can boot to D: but cannot change the settings for
the XP pro OS.
If I knew what file contained the boot inf. for the driver
I could go in and change the start type manually. I haved
search system files for hours and cant find the code line.
(I do not have an XP pro disk to reinstall. My other
laptop in XP home.)
