"multiple display" arrangement reverts when I re-boot

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I am using a (laptop) PC with WindowsXP, with two displays
(one that is part of the laptop PC, and an external one).
When I right-click on the desktop and select "Graphics Properties",
a window pops up, that allows me to arrange how the cursor moves
from one display to the other. This works OK, but when I shut down
the PC (and turn off the power to it) and later re-boot, it goes back
to some kind of default arrangement (such that I have to go
beyond the far right of my right-hand-side display, to get to the
Left-hand-side display). This is only a slight inconvenience, since
I only re-boot on average once a day.
HOWEVER, there is probably some way to actually change the
default, so that it will be more convenient, and I can stop having to
run through that "Graphics Properties" routine once a day.
Any advice would be appreciated.
