Renaming A Series Of Photo Files In Windows XP Pro SP2

Let's say we have a series of vacation photographs taken by different folks,
on different cameras, at different times.

I want to rename them all to a single series name -- Summer Vacation 2005 --
and then numbered sequentially as .jpg files.

They are already in the .jpg format.

Is there some easier way to do that without having to laboriously rename
each one manually?
