Hi Gabbon,

I did try Adaware and Spybot but I was unaware of that feature in the
latter.

That was possibly a long time ago, so I have been trying to avoid it. I
have been wrongly  blaming Mailwasher. I now think that the problem
occured when I tried to install Easy CD Creator over the top of
Nero/InCD. I uninstalled it immediately. What I should have done is
gone to the previous restore point straight away. Perhaps by using your
suggestion (regarding Spybot) and stopping the starting of programs -
those that are getting clobbered with the InCD uninstall - there will
be less damage when I go to an earlier restore point and do the
uninstall again.  After that, I can reselect those startup programmes.
