Loss of Icons in System tray (bottom right) with XP

I have been having problems with my computer not shutting down. I have
also been having the computer lock up _after_ burning CDs with Nero.
The latter was possibly due to InCD being corrupted by an early
(incompatible with XP) version of Roxio Easy CD Creator, which had been
uninstalled. The Task Manager showed rundll32.exe as permanently
running.

I performed an uninstall of InCD. This had three effects. Rundll32 no
longer inappropriately resided in the System Tray, and I could now shut
down normally. I haven't tried/needed to burn a CD yet.

The third effect wasn't so desirable. I lost all the icons from the
System Tray, except for the volume control. In another user's login,
all the same icons have gone with two exceptions. They are Windows
Messanger and Cyberlink Multimedia Launcher.

Using Startup Manager, I have got AVG (antivirus) to activate at
startup, but not running minimized in the System Tray. AVG seems to
offer no facility for selecting minimization as default. I had more joy
with Zone Alarm. One of its EXEs launches it in the System Tray. It
might be a case of having to reinstall some programs.

My main question is, should I proceed with this or should I restore to
a point before the uninstall of InCD? I know that it is difficult to
know what damage might have been done. I would therefore be happy with
opinion on this. I haven't yet noticed any other ill effects. My other
question is, does anyone know of an application for managing the System
Tray and/or the mode of startup operation of programs? Perhaps someone
has some other suggestion.

I would be grateful for any assistance.

Best regards,

Sean McHugh
