Screen Saver May Not Start in Windows XP

”I got a fix. I changed to connection to the computer using the USB to PS2 adapter that came with the mouse. Now I get the screensaver. I would be interested to find out why this works.”

my screensaver does not activate automatically although it worked fine at
some point. I can see it working just fine in the preview under "control
panel", and the time is properly set up. I tried some patches from the
"Kelly's corner" website, but it didn't work. I also tried to set up time to
one minute, with windows "flying objects" screen saver (a basic one), nothing
happened. Could it be a program running on the back that I don't see? I have
windows XP, with Norton internet security, and I use a notebook.
