Re: Add Different Screen Resolution

The problem isn't the OS. The problem is the hardware and in this instance LCDs are notorious.

I just confirmed with some quick checks since I have laptop with LCD that only runs effectively at 1024x768 and have an LCD on the secondary on my desktop.

What you're describing only happens on my laptop when I increase resolution beyond the native capability of the display. If I reduce resolution, then all is fine. On my desktop, running 1280x800 on the LCD gets weird although the CRT is fine.

If you're truly stuck at 1680x1080 (which is really odd since that's a rather strange ratio), then you'll need to adjust font and icon sizing.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I tried PowerStrip but it looks like my display driver doesn't support custom settings and didn't give me the required resolution. I was hoping to be able to force/trick windows in to accept the lower resolution.

Cheers

Go to www.entechtaiwan.com and download PowerStrip; it may help.

Hello everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone can help with a small problem I have. I have recently changed to a newer version of an HP laptop with a 15.4inch wide screen. My previous machine ran with a screen resolution of 1280x800 and everything was peachy. The new one, however, runs at 1680x1080 which makes everything tiny. Because the screen is wide there is only one resolution that actually fits everything nicely into the screen without stretching in one direction and looking terrible.

Is there a way to force windows to run at 1280x800? Do the resolution options that exist on the Display Properties - Options tab reside in the registry and be edited or added to?

Any pointers most welcome.

Cheers

C-Ya Aly
