The hosts file, as before, just contains the standard sample document..no
other info. There are also hosts.bak, .bho, .sbs files

On my 33.6K modem, not at all. It's very fustrating. I have a 56K modem as
well that I don't use cos the 33.6 was $400 new but the 56K is only a $30
modem. And 56 isn't significantly quicker than 33K.

What about the Hosts file. That should be there.
