Hi people,
would like to know info on the task manager. Specifically the
processes tab. I have about 52 processes running, which if any can I
stop.
52 isnt' a lot of processes and most are probably useful. I have 63 running
on mine.
Try End Task on some and see what happens. If you get in trouble, Restart;
they'll come back. Just do not Remove them in any way - Stop Task instead.
Also what exactly does the commit charge mean. On the
performance tab what does the PF Usage represent, and can it be
tweaked for performance.
Not unless you're the geeky type and can monitor them. Pagefile is where
things that don't have enough room in memory go to be stored until they're
needed again. They are best handled by the system, as is the default.
Can the Physical memory, commit charge and
kernel memory, values be tweaked as well.
Yes, but unless you're the geeky type it can cause a lot of problems
"tweaking" them. Physical memory is the number of RAM chips you have in
your computer; you'd have to add more RAM. If you have 512 of RAM, you
might see some improvements by going up to a Gig, but probably nothing of
great noticeability.
What should my virtual
memory be set at for optimal performance.
They should be set to "Allow System to Manage" or whatever the phrase is.
Which is the default setting.
There are also some
programs under the start up tab in msconfig that I dont recognize,
Paste the names int o Google and see what comes up.
some
have the box checked but no description. All info will be
appreciated. Thanks . Tom
Don't know what you mean by check box; there is none in TM.
You might also like to investigate MSConfig; Start; Run; type msconfig and
press OK.
Wikipedia can give you a decent description of all of these things.
REcommended reading. Searching the 'net is also another great resource, as
is uing your Help features.
