Re: Services

Is there a site that explains more simply what all these services are for? I
found out from trial and error that DCOM opens the links on my Outlook
Express and DHCP is needed for me to be on the Internet. I know that
Protected Services in needed for my backup. What I am trying to find out is
what OTHER services are required for my Windows Backup to work? All the other
guys I have talked to here have given me all the advice they can think of,
hence the mutiple post according to what I have found out and how I need to
ask my questions differently. Sorry if there is any confusion. I know you
guys are doing your best. All non-Microsoft software has been disabled so it
is not a conflict however the list of service settings for Windows XP Home
Edition SP2 do not let my backup run and we all know I need my backup. If I
set it for Windows Home Edition without the SP2 then my Outlook Express links
will not open IE. Learning all this and reaching the end of all help that can
be received as yet is why I had to repost.

The Services vary from PC to PC depending amongst other things what has been

You have been posted a number of links to 'services' sites check with them
the default WinXp services for sp2 services.
Some services have dependancies on another so disabling one can impact on
another.
Once you have checked on these sites the 'default' services, check your sys
again. Then check the event logs for errors. All this enabling/disabling
will get you knowhere unless you know exactly what the services are for and
what impact amending has.

My services under Adminitrative Tools are not configured right. It worked
fine until I rebooted once. Now if I get the link in Outlook Express and
it
opens in IE then my backup doesn't work. And if I get my backup to work my
in
Outlook Express and it opens in IE does not work. Its driving me crazy. I
stopped all non-Microsoft services. That did not work so I would stop one
service at a time and try both Outlook Express links and backup. When they
both did not work then I would restart them and stop them, whichever was
opposite of the now present configuration. Could someone whose backup
works
and when they click on a link in Outlook Express and it opens in IE works
could someone please send me your security's configuration. My system is
configured with Windows XP Home Edition, SP 2. I can't think of any other
important information you may need but if you need more information,
please
ask.
