Thanks, Wesley,
My complaint is that, within the Appearance/Advanced utility, I can
created a title bar with graduated color, using Color 1 and Color 2. The
title bar then shows up that way in the pop-up Appearance/Advanced box,
but when I click Apply, all I get is the standard blue XP title bar.
There seems to be a provision for customizing the title bar, but it just
doesn't work.
No big deal, though; I can limp along as-is.

In some ways, yes.
[[NOTE: You can change the look of individual items if you select Windows
Classic style in the Windows and buttons list on the Appearance tab of
Display Properties. (Right-click an empty area of your desktop, then
click Properties, and then click the Appearance tab). If you select a
visual style other than Windows Classic, that style determines the
appearance of your menus, fonts, icons, and other Window elements. ]]

I finally entered the 21st Century and swapped over from XP running
under "classic view" to the default XP appearance. Well, okay, that's
cool, but under Advanced, I have tried to make some changes, but they
won't take.
In particular, I'm trying to replace that "Mattel Toybox Blue" title bar
with another color; specifically two different shades of blue that
should show a gradation from left to right. I can pick my two fave
colors, but they won't 'stick.'
I was able to change the color of the Active Window from Hospital White
to my preference (cool, K&E drafting-table green), but the choice for
the Message Box is grayed out.
Under Classic View for XP, all parameters were variable and I could
change them. Is XP less versatile in this regard?
