Surely there's someone out there that has gone this deeply into playing with configs. I'd deeply appreciate the help.
TIA
If you use drop shadows on icon labels you get white text with the drop
shadow effect. If you do not use drop shadows, you get white text if
Display> Appearance> Advanced: Item> Desktop is a dark color. Black text if
it's a light color.
I like the drop shadows (and the transparent icon labels) so that means
white text only for me. When I want to use a light wallpaper, I make a copy
of it. Then use a graphics program to darken its edges.
Thanks, but i already know that. My question is- where is the config file that governs these properties? A simple edit of the hex code for font color is what i'm looking for. What is the file name, and where is it? Making a copy of the file for backup, and then editing the new one is what i'm after. Safe-mode editing should allow me to either edit or substitute the file. Does anyone know what file i would edit, please.
It is not possible to change a config file (XP is not a distribution of Linux and does not use "config files", it uses the Registry, or *.ini files for individual programs. Although more and more software for Windows is beginning to use the Registry to save its configuration information.
The color of icon text on the Desktop cannot be configured using Microsoft-supplied tools. You must use a third-party tool (if you can find one).

OK, so i got the descriptor wrong. So, which .INI has the info? Somwhere there has to a shell 'expert' that knows where this info is and actually can, or will help me. This is a simple matter of a hex edit, given the right file and parameter id. I realize that this is beyond the level of most users desire for mods, for fear of doing irreparable damage. But, by backing up the original and doing the work on the copy, it's a pretty safe task. Thanks.
