I think your activex bar problems at the HP site are separate from the
other things going on. And if the bar works at other sites, suspect some
flaw in HP's page construction. Things you can try:

Add HP to your trusted sites in IE : Internet Options> Security: Click on
the Trusted Sites icon. Then click Sites and add HP's site.

When the security bar appears, all you should need to do is right click on
it and say "Allow download." If there is an "Always allow from this site"
then take that option instead.

If still no luck, try a different browser with the HP site - Firefox, for
instance. And drop HP an email and tell them their site does not work well
with the IE security additions. If they get enough complaints, they'll fix
it. (Shame on them for making this difficult for their users!)

While browsing around and downloading, add your favorite sites to the
trusted sites list. I can't imagine wanting to remove that yellow bar
completely. It protects against malicious sites downloading junk without
permission - a serious security problem these days.

Sorry, I wasn't specific about your camera losing touch with the wizard due
to a post-SP2 update and not SP2. I knew that from your other posts but
said it poorly (said it wrongly to be exact :) ). My apologies.

No, no patch available that I know of. Your problem with the camera/scanner
wizard is somewhat unique and its disappearance coincided with the
installation of a post-SP2 patch. MS needs to know this. If possible, they
will eventually come up with a fix. They may even work with you on the
problem or already know a solution which hasn't been publicized in the MS
Knowledge Base yet or have a patch that has not been released yet.

Same goes for the hardware vendors. If their "stuff" breaks with the ever
evolving Windows, they should make an effort to fix it. They won't spend
the time doing this unless users tell them they are having a problem.

You may even get a "no fix at this time" from both parties (MS and other
vendors) but maybe down the road a few months something new will show up.
These fixes can take time but they can't/won't begin to address the issue
if they don't know that there's a problem.
