Sychronization problems

We use roaming profiles. So far so good, until I started getting low disk
errors. Got to checking around, and I found the offending mechanism:
synchronization.

I tend to d/l or part real files on the desktop. Started that with W95.
After installing or completion, I will move or delete the file. The server
never deletes the files, and my desktop keeps refilling with these "deleted"
files, AND the OffLine files keeps growing and growing and growing.

I've deleted the files from the desktop, used the the disk cleanup to remove
the offline files, removed the files from the server (I think) and even
removed my profile from my computer. Now, I have even less room on my drive
(I now start in the "default" profile when I log on), and although I can
remove the files and re-logon to get my working desktop, I no longer have my
Outlook settings, although I was careful to save them elsewhere and copy them
back into my new profile.

What gives???

Tremendously frustrated - and lost a full day of work -

Mark
