Galerie,
This is a hard one to answer. The VIA Bus Master Drivers
control the communication between your Hard Drive and
Windows. I'm sure you are aware of this minor little
detail. Obviously, this can ccause some serious problems if
it is not working right.
First and fore most, I have to ask a rediculous question:
Do you have an AMD processor on a VIA motherboard?
Secondly: Are you installing VIA's 4n1 drivers?
Third: Did you try to "install the drivers from a specific
location" instead of letting Windows search for them?
If the answer to both of these questions is "YES" then
well. You got a problem hehe... the most likely cause of
this problem is that the BIOS and Windows ACAPI are having
conflicting issues when you PC is loading. The BIOS seems
to be rejecting Windows IRQ preferences. We have 2 viable
options here to try to alieviate this issue.
1) First boot to your current safe mode. When Windows loads
and you can see what little of your desktop exists, press
the Windows Key and the Pause/break key at the same time.
This will pull up the System Properties screen. Go to the
Hardware Tab and select the Device Manager.
In the Device Manager click on the plus symbol next to the
"Computer Icon"
It should now either state "ACAPI or Standard PC", Either
way double click on this new sub menu and navigate to the
"IRQ STEERING" tab. Deselect The IRQ Steering check box.
Then Reboot.
2) If that didn't work physically remove the Hard drive
from the pc. Then restart it without a hard drive present.
Turn off the PC and re-insert it after the BIOS has updated
itself. The BIOS will then update its settings again and
re-allocate your Hard drives resources.
I have chosen to recommend solution #2 because I do not
like giving advice as to what settings should be applied in
the BIOS SET UP. My advice could be wrong for your system
and right for mine, there by completely ruining your
system. Removing the Hard drive should really be the last
straw. BUT IF it were my PC, I would enter the BIOS, Choose
to shut of power management. Then I would make sure that
the Primary and Secondary Controllers are set to Ultra DMA
mode. I would also make sure that there were not any
resource conflicts between the PCI cards etc. Save the
Settings and re-boot.
