The listing for gateway is normal if you have your internet connection
attached to the router. The listing for the network card should remain
present too. May want to check properties of the NIC in Device Manager. If
there is a power management page available, make the necessary changes to
disallow standby for that device.

Unless your ISP has assigned your account a static IP, there should be no
need to make any changes in Internet Explorer's LAN Settings. Automatic
settings will pick up the info as needed.

Some ISPs rely on UPNP to communicate with the router. Check with them to
find out their requirements.
