First I have a question for you. Why do you think you have a virus? Perhaps
you do not? What behavior is your computer showing that makes you believe
you have a virus and when did this behavior start? Did you install or
unistall any programs? Did you delete any files? You could have spyware and
or malware or you may need to do some maintenance on your computer. If you
want I can walk you through the maintenance steps for Windows XP but it may
not solve your problem if you truly have a virus; however if you dont have a
virus and your computer has slowed down considerably this may help. As far as
virus removal I really think your best option is to pay a technican so they
can do a virus removal thoroughly whether it be to take it to a shop or have
a tech come to your home. I only know a little about virus removal. It can
be difficult for certain reasons and complicated. You need to know what kind
of virus you have and how deep the infection is. Viruses hide in deep files
the registry and hidden files and subfolders you cant see or access on your
computer, hence complete removal takes a good deal of technical experstise.
If a reinstallation of Windows is needed then that is way beyond my expertise
and you would be wise to fork out money to have it done. I hope this has
been helpful. Get back to me and answer my questions we will go from there.
Merry Christmas Bright Winter Solstice and best regards,

Well my friend I wish I had better news for you in regards to your question
but I do not. However I will provide you two options that fit your criteria:
1. You can go towww.symantec.comandfor a fee based service they will
scan your entire computer for viruses and remove them or 2. call Microsft at
800-microsoft and ask for technical support and tell them you have a virus
and they will direct you to the security team of tech support. They will
charge you about $60 dollars. Both these options require no downloading and
no taking it in to a shop but cost money. You may want to get a quote from a
technician to see if you can get virus removal cheaper. Depending on what
virus you have you may need to reinstall Windows which is a major pain in the
ass, but might be neccessary. In that case a technician is probably your
best option. I hope this has been helpful. If you want to know how to
dispose of the virus yourself respond and I will see what I can do for you
but it would require downloading of programs. Merry Christmas and best
regards

I'll ask this question then. How do computer repair shops remove a
virus?

Now the virus isn,t on the computer I'm typing on which is a laptop,
but it's on a desktop computer a windows xp-service pack 3. You ask
"How do you know you have a virus"? It popped up many boxes at once to
download antivirus2009. I can't get on the internet with it now or
even run my Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware and sometimes have a hard time
clicking even the start menu-but I dont have to worry about the
inability to click now because the monitor won't work

PS: If you leave a computer unplugged for 5 days, will that get rid of
a virus? We had a computer with a threat on it and after it was
unplugged for several days then plugged back in-the threat was gone.
