You're talking about the screen saver. Actually if you are using a LCD
monitor and not a CRT monitor, you can disable the screen saver entirely.
The mail reason it's there is in the earlier days when CRT type monitors
were the norm, displaying a constant image on it would eventually burn it
into the screen phosphors. Modern LCD monitors don't have that problem, so
a screen saver isn't really needed.
One of my desktop PC's is still using a CRT monitor, so don't feel bad. As for the time, sure that's fine, you could make it a little longer too, like say 10 minutes or so.
