need help with .exe file on cd

I posted this on another newsgroup and didn't get any help , anyone with
any ideas where to look next


I use an older program (Sierra's Print Artist 3.0 ) in Windows XP. It has
worked fine for 3 years. Now it won't open. I uninstalled it and now it
won't reinstall. If I click on the setup.exe file on the cd all I get is
an hourglass flash.
note: I can't double click on the cd rom to see the disk , I have to right
click , open to view files and only with this program.
I've tried 2 different cd drives. I tried installing it in "safe mode "
also. I did get it to install into another computer though so the disc is
ok. , but I need it in this one.
Everything else seems to work so it is not tied to just .exe files. Could
this be caused by the last windows update? Anyone with any ideas
