Re: SP3

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hi,
I recently installed SP3. I didn't go to the MS site, I installed by
way of a message I received while surfing. Since that time, I have no
way of accessing, for instance, History or Internet Options. I have
done a full virus, malware and adaware scan in safe mode. My machine
is clean.
When IE is opened, in the extreme left-hand corner used to be
Microsoft Internet Explorer or something like. Now there is just the
IE logo, while in the extreme right corner are the page controls.
When I try to access Internet Options in Control Panel the page
flashes for the shortest time. Also, as part of the icon for Internet
Options there used to be three check marks. There is now only 2.
I have tried System Restore going back as far as I can, but still no
joy. All help greatly appreciated.

Hmm, if you didn't download SP3 from Microsoft, and especially since you
didn't say WHERE you downloaded it from, who knows what you downloaded?
One should never use popups or unknown sources for any purpose; always
go to the proper site for such things.

I would suggest going to add/remove, tick to show the updates, and
uninstall that. Then go to Microsoft and get SP3 from their site. If
you haven't already, back up your data for safekeeping and restart,
install SP3.

I hope your data is already backed up; you might need it. Restore would
not fix this problem for you; you have to uninstall whatever it was you
installed.
