I may be wrong but I understand Microsoft plans to drop support'
for XP Pro soon. I just used the Software Updater to update my
wife's Dell D-600 to SP 3 and it seems to be working good.

I am worried about how to rebuild my system if Microsoft stops
supporting XP and wonder if I should pay for the SP 3 CD to be
safe that I and do a reinstall if needed?

You can download SP3 by itself and burn it to your own DVD is you wish.
