Re: disable audio driver

I went into BIOS and disabled the A9 Audio there; now the new sound card is
working fine with no screeching from the speakers. However my mike is not
working so I shall have to figure out how to sort that; I suspect it would
have been set up originally for the sound card in the motherboard that is
now disabled.
Thanks again.

The legacy driver isn't built in to the motherboard but the audio chip is
which causes Windows to load the legacy driver.

After you disable the built in audio chip from within the BIOS and then
boot to Windows check Device Manager again to see
if it's gone. You may need to load the new drivers for your "Audio/Sound
Card" at this time.

Thank you; I know how to go into the BIOS but am a bit wary of disabling
thigs there. I have set a restore point but that would have no effect if
I change things in the BIOS.
I suspect the legacy driver is built in to the motherboard so might end
up doing as you suggest.

If your PC's motherboard has a built in sound chip
then you must disable it in the BIOS.

I have installed a new sound card but am getting an error message that
it will only work if I disable some of the other audio systems in the
computer (running windows XP).
Can someone please tell me how to disable the legacy audio driver?
I know how to go into the device manager and can see it there, also can
check its properties.
Thank you.
