I would like to get a laptop to use with my wireless Linksys system, that
consists of a Dell desktop Vista Ultimate, Model 420, and my Dell desktop
XPST450 (old) Windows 98se. I would like to get XP. Am I just asking for
trouble and incompatibilities by getting XP? If not , could you please
recommend a brand and minimum to moderate configuration. I know nothing
about laptops. I would like to share files, work from other room and take
it with me if need be. I have a 1 TB external backup drive and my Vista
machine has 1 TB multi-partitioned drive, and a 750GB C and backup drive.
I use Avast antivirus and Linksys hard wall firewall and Vista firewall
and on win98se (I forget - another free firewall). I run Ad-Aware, Spybot,
Spywareblaster and superantispyware frequently.Cable connection.
Suggestions for laptop would be greatly appreciated. (under $1200 if
possible). Thank you.

You can still buy laptops with XP preinstalled from Dell's business
division. I believe that Lenovo and HP also offer XP as an option from
their business divisions. Go to their websites and look at the laptops and
see what suits your needs. With laptops I always suggest getting at least a
3-year warranty plus the accidental coverage if available.
XP networks just fine with Vista and Win98. It is Vista that can have
difficulties networking with Win98, not XP.
