Upgrading to SP3

I'm going to bite the bullet today and load SP3.
Here's my understand (er... wish)
Since my SP2 system up to date with all updates. The SP3 installation will go more quickly? because SP3 is an agglomeration of all previous updates (with perhaps a few new ones). Is that correct?
Suppose my system was not current. Would the SP3 install take longer?
