Re: Win XP CD won't boot

You realize that you have to press a key when prompted to boot an XP CD
right? There should be a message on the screen to this effect and you will
have 5 seconds to press a key or the CD won't boot. Try restarting the
computer with the XP CD and tap the spacebar repeatedly. I have seen some
system splash screens interfere with the display of the XP boot message.

Does your XP CD boot in another system? Perhaps it is damaged in some way.

This is a strange one. I'm trying to change my Lenovo desktop machine from
(preloaded) Vista back to XP. I have a legit XP CD, all the XP drivers for
that machine from the Lenovo website and am familiar with installing XP.
I've changed the boot sequence to CD, but the machine simply won't boot
from the XP CD. The drive starts and continues to run, but there is no
boot activity. Just for fun I tried booting from an old Win 98 CD and it
will boot, but when I replace the 98 with the XP the machine just quits
responding. Any ideas?

And another question - If I can boot with the 98 CD, would I accomplish
anything by formatting the hard drive at that point, then attempting to
install XP? Or would I totally screw up the system? It's almost as if
Vista refuses to acknowledge that XP exists. Lenovo has been no help -
they just keep telling me to do what I've already done.

Any help greatly appreciated.
