Windows XP Pro SP2.
Why do I always have an unused residual window left on my screen after I
run an old full screen DOS program?
It's run from an unaltered shortcut (exept for the icon) through simple
path entries.
Is there any way to get rid of it without having to do it manually after
every use?
The console remains open until the DOS-mode program exits that opened it. So the program that opened the console window is still running. Without the actual shortcut properties, no one can be specific on a vague question. Anyone can guess if all you are hunting for are guesses, like it ran "cmd.exe /k ..." or "cmd.exe /k start ...".
