HI
Two questions.
First I've reinstalled windows a couple of times due to problems.
Programs that were on my laptop stayed but didn't show up, couldn't be used and aren't in the add/remove. But you go to reinstall them and it says that the program is there and do you want to proceed. Do a yes and all's fine. Things like agent and music programs. So I can't remove them or use them until I've reinstalled. What's going on?
Also when I open an office document it says something along the lines of can't find check path several times. Keep clicking to get rid of the dialogue box's and the file opens. Am I starting a new user or something everytime I reinstall?
Finally and yes that's three questions. If I get an external hard drive can I backup the whole thing then if I get a crash just plug it in and reinstall? If so how?
You did not do a clean install of Windows or nothing you previously had on the machine would still be there. You apparently have done two Repair Installs, or perhaps you have Recovery Disks from an OEM and you did not do a full restore to factory condition. If you have an OEM machine and recovery disks, refer to the computer manual or the OEM's website for instructions as to how to return the machine to factory condition.
Back up your data - not programs that are already installed - and do a real Clean Install. After you have done your clean install, installed all your drivers, done all the updates, and generally gotten the computer just the way you want it, use an imaging program like Acronis True Image to create an image and store it on the external hard drive.
If you can't do the work yourself (and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea), take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad).
