Re: Windows XP buggy and unstable

But OP shouldn't throw out the baby with the bathwater! I'd keep AdAware
and Ccleaner.

Too much garbage on your system. It will NEVER perform well.
Garbage meaning; Norton, Webroot Spysweeper, Trolkom Spywall,
Adaware, CC Cleaner
Abexo Registry Cleaner, Easy Clean etc.

I've been having some of the same problems with windows XP ever
since I updated to I.E. 7. The scans I have ran on my computer are:
Norton antivirus
2007, symantec security check, Windows Defender, Webroot
Spysweeper-paid version, Trlokom Spywall-paid version, Lavasoft
Adaware, CC Cleaner, Abexo Registry Cleaner, Easy Clean, and I have
cleared the browser, cleaned temp files both through the control
panel and manually, and ran the disk check. I
also run everything through a sandbox. I finally downloaded firefox
and flock which work great as long as I don't use I.E. 7 at the same
time.

For the last several days I have been getting some
serious error
messages when I start my PC and sometimes as it is
running. I'm

running Windows XP w/ SP2. I first noticed something
wrong when I
couldn't read from 2 virtual drives (:D and :E) which
are

partitions of my main C drive. The drives showed up
in the My
Computer list, but when I tried to view files on
them, there was an

error message and an option to Format the drive.
After several
reboots, the PC started and this problem has not
returned.

Since then, I have gotten other (boot?) error
messages on repeated
occasions. For instance:

"Critical Error - no free port for HTTP server found
on IP 127.0.0.1"
and
"Registery recovery - One of the files containing the
system's
registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or
alternatate copy.

The recovery was successful." and

"lsass.exe system error - The end point format is
invalid"

It seems that a reboot (or two) usually fixes the
problem. Once I
have successfully started the PC, I eventually seem
to have

connectivity problems with Firefox. It will crash
and sometimes I can
restart it and other times I need to reboot. My
antivirus (AVG)

acts squirrelly, too, and I imagine that it is
related. The
antivirus is working, but reports a connection
problem and can't
always get updates. Again a reboot often fixes the
problem. A virus
scan and Ad-Aware spyware scan run fine without
identifying any
problems.
A few times I get a message that "Windows has
encountered a problems
and is shutting down" along with a pop up asking to
submit the report
to Microsoft.
Probably too much information, but I would appreciate
any suggestions.

many thanks.

Not too much info IMO anyway. Parts of what you
describe sound like a virus. Personally I'd update and
do antiviral and spyware/malware scans using at least 3
of the better spyware detectors out there.

Take a look in Event Viewer; see if there are any hints
in the warnings or especially errors in those logs.
Check all 3 logs.
