You only looked at one? Or are you saying that is all that's available in

Any other phone comp. in your area?

Is there a high speed connection available yet that will fit a poor
man's
budget?

CenturyTel wants to sell me a "high speed" dial-up connection ($12.95),
but I've already learned it's merely a compression scheme that won't
gain
much, if anything, transferring previously compressed files. That would
be essentially useless given that video bearing sites are the primary
reason I'd move beyond dial-up. Unless I'm mistaken?

There's a local company planning a fully fiber network in competition
with
local cable and others, but the cable company is slowing them down as
much
as possible seeking court injunctions, etc. Could be 5 years or more.

Is anyone's cable reasonable yet? I go Googling and find more confusion
than help.

Iraq war? The USA should pretend to be the only country on the planet!!

I Googled "Century tel dsl" and saw "As low as $89.99!" That doesn't
sound low to me; is it?

I just found that on the first page that showed up; it's for a "bundle."

Now I see they're advertising a 256-Kbps dsl service for $20/month for
the first year. That's more like it!

Here in Miami, Florida, our only choice is AT&T, and I just can't afford
it at all. :-(

P.S. I'm hoping our next president will usher in the the Internet
super-highway. This one seems more intent on pleasing profit-making
corporations than the nation as a whole, an approach which will hurt
everybody in the long run.
