Think; If you always take positive action to empty the recycle bin you see
what's in it before you empty it. You can selectively delete items as
opposed to a complete emptying as with disc clean. You maintain control and
avoid deleting something in error.

Are you running any kind of "cleaner" at startup, e.g. ccleaner?
Check your startup list in Start => Run and type in
"msconfig" {without the quotes}

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't see anything like that in my
start list,
though are a lot of things there that are mysteries to me. Don't
know what they do! If I did have a cleaner, would it clean
anything else I could look for?

You would have to have installed it. What it cleaned would depend
on how it was set up in the program's options. For example, it
may be set to clean up your internet cache, empty the C:\TEMP
folder or the C: \Windows\TEMP folder. The program would also
have to be set to run the selected cleanup options on startup.
It was just a thought, as I know some cleanup programs can be set
to empty the Recycle Bin at startup.
One way to check might be to delete some files to the Recycle Bin
and then start the computer in Safe Mode (F8 after the
manufacturer's splash screen. Hopefully the program won't initiate
in Safe Mode. If the Recycle Bin doesn't empty it's a pretty good
guess that it's something that's been installed.
There are programs that will empty a Recycle Bin on shutdown, but
not very common.


That was a good suggestion. I put some things in the Recycle Bin
and then restarted in Safe Mode. They were still there. Then I
started again in regular mode and opened the Recycle Bin as soon as
I could. I actually watched the items disappear. So, it must be
something in the Startup program, though there is nothing obvious
(to me) with the name clean in it (Windows Temp folder is not
emptied, by the way). I guess I'll just have to start eliminating
things in the start up program until I figure out what is causing
it. I assume programs in start up are loaded in the order listed.
The items disappeared before my browser loaded (I have it set to
load automatically at start up), so that should help me. Thanks
