sorry to post again so fast, but checked event viewer and got this
AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to read from an illegal IO port
address (0xcfc), which lies in the 0xcf8 - 0xcff protected address
range. This could lead to system instability. Please contact your
system vendor for technical assistance.

Well, did you follow the directions?
It is important to take an organized approach to solving computer
related problems. Measure twice, cut once.

what directions would that be? I read a lot of sites that had that
problem...microsoft says update the BIOS..I have an older pc and no
updates for my BIOS...looked into BIOS updates months ago...I still
never found out if anyone found an actual solution that worked
really...this is causing my pc to freeze and I have to push the
power button to reboot...I am sure this is also causing my start
lag as well...

And have you read my reply to your just previous thread?

Mooky,

To help you out - this is the 'previous post' that Phil is referring to:
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsxp.basics/browse_frm/thread/d59cba8a50170f5e/fc44e8292141a5b6?lnk=st&q=&rnum=2#fc44e8292141a5b6

This particular post can be seen in full here:

This other post from you leads me to believe you have some serious HARDWARE
issues you need to resolve - most likely due to defective/mismatched memory.
Some possiblilty of power issues and/or a bad motherboard.
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsxp.basics/browse_frm/thread/34222c257e65c5c0/4164569a071a82bd?lnk=st&q=author%3Amooky&rnum=17#4164569a071a82bd

And last - I see you had some serious cable modem issues before you got it
replaced - so there is a possibility it was your network card/network card
driver this whole time - have you updated your motherboard chipset and
network card drivers from the manufacturer's download support web sites?
