Perhaps more RAM would help and/or a faster CPU/Memory/FSB would help.

Perhaps a program like Windows Media Player would help; it takes care of rhe
'The' problem.

You should orgainze your files in a convenient manner. Subfolders are
indicated as a way reducing the time Windows Explorer takes to rearrange its
presentation. What you see is NOT your system slowing down, but rather a
result of your choice of an inefficient method organization.

I have no problem with Windows Media Player and seven thousand tunes (40
Gbytes), but then I never try to look through the entire directory using
Windows Explorer.
