Is there something like SFC in XP Home, so that I can reinstall a
file that may be corrupted or may be causing probs in an app? A win
message came up upon boot, indicating that "user32.dll was

files but found no entries. What to do ?

The error message you're seeing may be the result of having installed a
recent update from Microsoft. There's a fix available from the following
web site.

The Realtek HD Audio Control Panel may not start, and you
receive an error message when you start the computer: "Illegal
System DLL Relocation"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448/

Many thanks for that. I have the same problem as the OP and that has solved
it.

FYI, SFC /scannow works the same way in XP Home as it does in any other
version of XP. However, it probably will not fix your problem.

When I run sfc it asks for my XP CD - and I have one of those systems where
the supplier has hidden the XP files on the hard disk and supplied a
recovery disk!! So no run!

Good luck
