I have 1.0GB of memory in my computer.

I find that if I have too many internet windows open at a given time
(15-20) that alot of the functions of my computer no longer work...and
then once I "X" out alot of those windows those functions start
working again.

Is this normal? Is it just the fact that with all those windows open
(and several programs as well!) that I am simply stretching my memory
to capacity and that the only way to get things right is to delete
some of the strain on memory by reducing the number of windows open?

Or should I be worried that something isn't working right?

It depends, what functions are you losing when you have all of these windows
opened?.

Right-click functions such as "open in new tab" (which I use alot) and
also downloading often stops or is slow.

Bear in mind all the running Processes in the background and the Anti-virus
controlling and checking all programs and traffics on your system, also the
CPU and how it handle the Usage of the Memory.
Having a big memory more than needed it doesn't reflect the fact that this
memory is wasted if not handled well by the System.
Also some of theses pages been built with Flash players, java applets that
can take a lot for the CPU to handle.
Overheated system can slow things and make your application freeze.
