RE: Speakers won't work

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Check out the device manager (right click on My Computer click on properties
then click the hardware tab then click device manager) under there check and
see if there are any yellow question marks under your Sound, Video, and game
controllers. If there is a yellow question mark you probably just need to
reinstall the driver for your sound card. As far as your virus problem try
this http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and use the free scan and if you do
have a virus it will delete it or give you step by step instructions on how
to clean it up

I keep getting an error message when I try to open Windows Media Player. This
program was working perfectly just a few days ago but now the program won't
open and the Windows Media Player won't work. The error message is :"Windows
Media Player cannot play file because there is a problem with your sound
device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it
might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."
I also keep geting two error messages from the AntiVirus program that I have
never got before. It says,"COM Error Caught
Code value = 80004002
Code meaning = No such interface supported
Description - No default supported languange AND

Could not initialize language support interface
Application cannot run

I am also have trouble with some sort of virus with JAVA in the name. One
scan I did showed it but I don't think it got deleted. That's the problem
with Virus scanning software-it finds the virus but I never know if it got
deleted or eliminated from my computer.

So anyway, my speakers don't work. I went to the Control Panel and clicked
on Sounds and Audio Devices and the Volume, Audio and Voice tabs are all
greyed, indicating that something is wrong and I would not expect the
speakers to work under this condition. I don't really think it is a problem
with drivers but I don't know how to fix it. I don't assume I would have to
reinstall the OS though. I have Windows XP Home Edition.

I thought maybe someone reading through these newsgroups question might ahve
heard of this particular error and would have some idea of what the problem
could be.

I did recently change the speakers on my computer. The first set of speakers
plugged into the compter through a microphone jack and the wall. I installed
another set of speakers just recently that were exactly the same
manufacturer-Cyber Accoustics except they use a USB connection on the
computer and the microphone jack.

But now there is no sound coming from my computer, and it was working
perfectly less than a week ago. System Restore has been no help either.

I just thought I'd ask about this problem in case anyone did ever hear of a
similar problem with a solution for it.
