I don't agree with that at all. A software developer isn't better at
identifying a virus, or other malware, just because he works for a company
that wrote the operating system. Malware and operating systems are two
entirely different things and skills at dealing with one necessarily aren't
the same as skills at dealing with the other.
Nor is the size of the company relevant. In my view, Norton and McAfee are
among the worst ant-malware vendors and much smaller companies like those
that produce Avast or AVG are much better.
It's not big companies that are writing the viruses. Judging by the news
of hacker arrests by the FBI and other legal authorities, many times
it's a teenager hacking Windows from a PC in his bedroom. If Microsoft
was that easily hacked by a teenager, what could possibly cause anyone
to believe that Microsoft is the best outfit to stop such hackers?
