What I mean by losing the settings is that I usually find that the gamma,
colours and brightness have gone completely out on starting. I have to go
into the control panel and fiddle with the display properties>settings to
get things back to normal (I do click "apply"). If I leave the pc connected
to the mains and just shutdown with windows then no probs, however, if I
unplug after shutdown and leave for , say 48 hours if we go away for the
weekend then i'm back to the the control panel to reset!
I still think it could be battery, but then the settings should be simply
stored on disc??

I keep losing my colour settings! it seems to have started happening
when I started to turn off my PC at the mains. Leave it off for a
couple of days and when turning on I have to go into Control Panel
and reset all the colours! I suspected battery,but my dealer says
no. Any ideas out there?
Also, does anyone know of a east to use bit of software to set up
colours? Gamma etc?
That probably has nothing to do with you losing your color settings.
Your next troubleshooting step depends on what you mean by "losing the
color settings". If you mean that you go from 24/32-bit color to
8/16-bit color, then:
A. Update the video drivers. Never get drivers from Windows Update. Get
them from:
1. The device mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM
computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).
Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the
drivers.
To find out what hardware is in your computer:
1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer.
2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific
model machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers
anyway)
3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc
Advisor. The older Aida32 is good for this, too.

B. If updating the video drivers doesn't solve the problem, swap out the
video card for a known-working one. If that solves the problem, replace
the original card since it is failing.
If this is not what you meant, then please post back with a better
explanation of what "losing the color settings" means.
