Colour settings

Hi,
I keep losing my colour settings! it seems to have started happening when I
started to turn off my PC at the mains. Leave it off for a couple of days
and when turning on I have to go into Control Panel and reset all the
colours! I suspected battery,but my dealer says no.
Any ideas out there?
Also, does anyone know of a east to use bit of software to set up colours?
Gamma etc?
